Tree / shrub ID

My neighbor has a 12 foot tall shrub or tree that is currently blooming with white, 4 petal flowers, approximately 4 inches across from pointed tip to pointed tip. Have checked all the gardening books I can lay my hands on and can find nothing like it. This is in Abingdon, VA.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Could it be a Sweet Bay Magnolia? Mine is blooming right now and kinda fits that description?

It might be Cornus kousa - Kousa Dogwood. Some of them are indeed spectacular this year.
