Cherry Recommendations

I'd like to start acquiring a fruit tree every year and my family loves cherries. My favorite is the Rainier cherry, which of course won't grow here, darn it, but I'm curious what varieties you've been successful with in this area. Personally, I prefer the much milder, sweeter taste of the Rainier, but my guys seem to love any kind I bring home :)

RE: Cherry Recommendations

I planted a dwarf North Star this year, and it put some fruit out! Don't know if they are worth eating but I can share what I know about this tree. It's small, so it will stay at a height I can more easily cover with netting to keep the birds from getting the fruit which can be a problem. Secondly it is self-pollinating. Be sure and check if the type tree you want needs a buddy near by to make fruit. This tree had the cutest shape, just a perfect little thing but it did suffer some die back after transplanting. It was also affordable since I got it from the local Magic Mart for $20. Well, that's all I know. Maybe by next year I will have more to share!
