Ant Colony in Flowerbed

| I have a decent-sized flower bed in my backyard, with a stepping stone path going through the bed. While weeding this afternoon, I moved the stepping stones around and discovered an ant colony has established itself under some of the stepping stones. How do I get rid of them without using pesticides which will harm beneficials and other wildlife? There are a ton of them, and they bite! Other older postings on this site suggested chemicals, coffee grounds, cornmeal ... do these things work? Has anyone in Virginia had any luck ridding themselves of an ant colony without pesticides? Thanks in advance! |

| Boiling water will work if applied in enough quantity. It must soak down to the nesting areas while still hot enough to kill. |
