Thuja Green Giant as Formal Hedge

I won't go into the details but after much research I am considering planting a row of the thuja 'Green Giant' with the intent to trim and prune it into a formal hedge and try to maintain it at around 6 ft . . . am I crazy? Can this be done? Has it been done?

I'm wondering about this also, as I need a privacy hedge. My concern about Thuja is that Thuja Green Giant might be a bear to keep at 6'? I think there is a smaller variety that tops out around 12' - 15' unchecked, or at least I think I read that. (??)
