Looking for Landscape Designer

| Does anyone know a good landscape designer that they have used? I am in one of the counties on the west side of Richmond.
I have an old house, pre-civil war with a major remodel at the turn of the century, and would like to have a real give and take relationship with a designer. I dabble in plants, but have opinions of what I feel will work with the house while keeping it true in style and function.
I also already have a base plan laid out on Auto CAD so I'm looking to pay for consultation fees, not drawings. I do not have a landscape plan, just the footprint of house, barn, pool, deck and future addition.
Basically, I'm looking for someone to educate me in landscape design, brainstorm ideas and banter. Ya know, like when we were in college and bounced ideas around at the bar....My background is a BA with Art as a major. I paint murals and teach.
I have been to the landscape design bunch and they helped me refine my search citeria!!
Hoping you can help me,
Heather

Heather, you can ask that question in the forums for professionals. In addition, do some web searches for [landscape design Richmond] (or county names) and see what you pull up. You might also search Google for a regional landscape design association -- then you can look at the members lists. Many designers have photos of their work on their web pages, or references you can call -- people they've worked for. Good luck.

I've already been to the landscape design forum and came up with little....Since I don't have "neighbors" where I live, I really wanted to get a real person with real experience. Much like when someone asks about a dentist ;) I do have a list of names, but I really do prefer word of mouth when possible.... I went to a local nursery and she gave me a name she works with too. I have leads, just was hoping for more!! Thanks though, Heather

Heather, go to Sandy's Plants in Mechanicsville and ask for suggestions on LDs. I'd throw my hat into the ring but I'm 2 hours north of you and the drive time charge would eat your budget.

Thank you Nicethyme, I'll check it out! I figure I'll wait until September, that'll give me a couple of weeks back to school and their "hot" time coming to a close. I did get a name from a nursery- the woman is in Midlothian- not soooo far from here- and she swears by her!! Cross your fingers. I'll check out Sandy's as soon as my MIL leaves.... Thanks a bunch! Love!
