Anyone have a souce of generic corn gluten meal in Western VA.? At the local feed mill cgm is $118 per ton. But they do not want to sell a 50lb bag. None of the local feed stores carry it. Gardens Alive WOW is nearly $1. per pound and online sources at .50 per pound.

Thanks

Check out your local feed'n'grain store. You should be able to find calf feed made of CGM - just read the label so as to NOT get the medicated version. If they don't carry the plain stuff, they should be able to order it for you at a reasonable cost. DH paid about $17 for a 50 lb bag of calf feed from a store in Strasburg or Edinburg (sorry, I don't know which area). It works just fine as a pre-emergent. I've used cooking cornmeal in small applications such as around the rose bushes, but that costs about .50 per lb.

A ton for $118? I bet I am not the only one who is trying to figure out what I could do with 2,240 pounds of CGM? I am not sure I really need a 28 year supply! There seems like a good co-op opportunity there, but you would need 10 to 20 local participants...and a truck.

When I had asked the guy (he seemed to be in charge of the feed supply section) at the TSC in Leesburg he had not heard of the stuff. He asked me what type of animal it was used to feed and pointed me toward the lawn care section when I said I wanted to use it for my lawn.

Shipping seems to be a killer for the online suppliers. At one point I saw the Cockadoodle DOO brand of CGM at Lowes in Sterling. It was not real cheap and I have not seen it there lately. I am pretty sure that many of the nurseries in No VA carry it, but it seemed too pricy for me.
