? re trimming my Gold Mop

| It is so pretty now and I hate to think about trimming it, but it must be done. It was planted five years ago and was very small. It is about 4ft tall now and probably 4ft wide at the base.
Is this the right time of year to trim, and how much should be taken off? I use the term "nipped back" but I don't know if that explains what I think needs to be done. I don't want to lose the feathery look and to end up looking like a lollipop!
I can't do it myself, so will have to hire someone and need to know what to tell them.
I'm in the Shenandoah Valley, which is Zone 6/7.
Sorry I don't have a pic.
TIA
Sue

| Are you sure this is the time? I might be mistaken, but I thought one doesn't prune evergreens at this time of year and should wait till spring. Maybe you'll hear from someone with more knowledge than I have. I'd like to hear from someone who knows Gold Mops cause I have three that I don't want to get overgrown, but I don't want to turn them into round globes either! I just want to contain or restrain their size. Hope we hear from others. |

| I've been checking back here off and on, for a reply, so thanks! I don't really know when the right time is and I did a search, but didn't find anything conclusive. I did have a neighbor to trim it back some. It was shading my dwarf nandinas, so I had to make a decision. So far it looks okay. I did water it after the trim, because we weren't getting any rain and I thought it looked "thirsty." There are some GM in my neighborhood which have been trimmed to look like balls. UGH! Sue |

Hi Sue, I don't have an answer, but over at the conifer forum someone might. Hank |

| Sue, you and I don't live very far apart. I live on the east side of the Blue Ridge, closer to Charlottesville. July and August were awful here in the small valley we live in. NO RAIN. Then in September we got five inches and our plants and lawn came back to life. I would suppose you got the rain as well. I'm going to check in the Conifer forum like Hank suggested and see what the folks there suggest for trimming Gold Mops. |
