I need a larger garden

| What are you doing in your garden now that fall seems to have finally arrived? I'm looking around desperately for places to put the new plants that are patiently waiting to go into the ground.
I've put in four new peonies, a daylily and some stargazer lilies that came from Wild. I found a place for the purple lilac. What about the new fig and the little gem magnolia that I couldn't resist? In addition a small Chinese magnolia and a pink rhododendron look at me reproachfully from their pots on the porch.
I love them. I wanted them. What am I going to do with them? |

| I feel your pain. When Wilds had its Peony sale this fall, I bought eight. Eight!! I don't have room for even one! (I bought Stargazers from them too -still in the box.) I told my husband that I wanted to get rid of more grass in the yard and he's going to dig another garden. I will be able to fit the eight Peonies in there, but there are still about 15 pots of daylilies waiting for their place in the garden. Fortunately, our late fall will support late planting. As warm as the soil temperature is, we can probably plant for the next 3-4 weeks without too much concern. If I don't get them planted this fall everything will live on my back porch until spring. Unless we have just brutal weather, most periennials will survive in our zone with modest shelter. Keep us posted with your progress! Meg :) |

| I am finding new homes for my young crepe myrtles, Japanese maples, weeping cherries, and blueberries. I dug up a festiva maxima peony and placed all the extra divisions with other gardeners. I am resolved to keep only one or two of every plant I fall in love with. Perhaps that way I will find room for everything I want. Good thing for me the climate places some limitations! Thanks for the empathy, Meg. My husband has been good natured about giving up lawn space. But now he has discovered square foot gardening, so he has his own plans, uh oh. |
