Moving to Southern Maryland

Hi All!

As there is no "Maryland" garden forum... looks like ya'll are the closest...

I'm moving to Southern Maryland (Leonardtown area) in late January. It looks to me the zone there is 7 (or 6B)- but I'm not sure.

Here in Huntsville, Alabama - the zone is 7. I'm bringing several Japanese Maples, buddleias and other shrubs with me - as I REFUSE to leave them behind.

Would anyone like to chime in and tell me what to expect with my new Maryland gardening adventure?

Thanks so much... Meadow Lark

Hi Meadowlark - you'll find the Marylanders in the "Mid-Atlantic" forum. I haven't gardened in Leonardtown, but I didn't find PG County (an hour or so drive north of Leonardtown) much different from No. Va where I am now - mostly zone 7. Good luck with your move!

RE: Moving to Southern Maryland

Hi Meadow Lark, Welcome to Maryland, Leonardtown area is a strong 7b especially south of there in the Breton Bay area where my girlfriend lives. I would say with confidence it is probaly one of the warmest areas in the state during the winter months, I live on the eastern shore and commute there frequently. It is a beautiful area and if you like the water you will be very content with St. Mary's County.

RESPONSE: Moving to Southern Maryland

Thanks so much for the info! I'll miss NE Alabama so much - but it will be fun learning about gardening in a new state!

Maryland bound... Meadow Lark
