Vermicomposting

mycorrhizal fungi and worms

I was wondering if compost worms eat this beneficial fungi. Is it worth it to inoculate your plants with fungus then add vermicompost with worms that eat it all. The fungi isn't cheap BTW.

If , for now, you will settle for a "hunch" rather than science,
I think your answer is yes. Inoculated seeds and plants have
a "relationship". (I think) and the worms have free fungi to eat.
I'll see whether I can find any Science.

Seven months later and some more information: but the story hasn't an ending.

What do you think about putting it this way ? The worms seem to eat mold and fungi, but that doesn't mean the fungi get lost.
Rather, that the spores might end up in the castings and get put to work in soil or on plants ?

Think of it as a "both and" rather than an "either/or " ?

I'll be posting in the mold and fungi thread as I learn more.

I agree Barbararose. I also think not EVERY spore/rhizome gets eaten. Again, as you put it, a "both and" scenario.
