Red Mites Revisited

I know there have been other threads about this, but I'm hoping to maybe get new ideas/solutions for the red mite situation.

I have 2 large RM bins that I'm going to harvest in March. I don't want to add the vermicompost that has the red mites in it to any of my plants or gardens because I've read too much info. that they do affect and/or damage plants. I also don't want to microwave the VC to kill the mites since it will ruin the VC.

Anyone have any new suggestions for dealing with red mites?

Since when do the little red mites damage plants? Are you possibly confusing them with spider mites? Compost mites generally don't eat living plants and they require a great deal more water than spider mites. It's easy to identify them because they will congregate where there is moisture, like on plastic walls with condensation, melon rinds, or a slice of bread thrown in the bin. The mites you have to worry about, they don't do that.
