Vermicomposting in Flower Beds

Hello All,

We had unusually warm weather yesterday, so I worked with a new flower bed that we created back in the fall. The soil was really poor in the beginning - lots of clay and rocks - so I added mulched up leaves back in October and have been throwing banana peels and coffee grounds in there ever since. The soil has improved tremendously and I think it will be ready for planting this spring.

Sooo ... my question is how to get worms going in this flower bed. I'd like to keep composting in this bed as well - we had an indoor worm bin several years ago and donated it to my daughter's school.

Can I buy bait worms and put them in there or is there a particular type of earthworm that does best? These will be outside year-round.

Thanks in advance!
