Bought some Vermicompost

| But, now what? Do I plant stuff right in it? Use it as a fertilizer? Can I make compost tea?
I only have about 8 lbs. of it. |

| Are you using it inside or outside? If inside, mix it 4:1 with potting soil, 4 parts potting soil to 1 part VC. If you are using it outside, drop some in the hole when you plant your starts. Hopefully someone will verify this in case I'm close, but not quite right. |

| I plan to use it outside in potted herbs and flowers. |

| This is the mix I use for potted plants that are annuals: 5 parts Turface (or floor dry if you can't find Turface) 2 parts Vermicompost (finished) 4 parts Peat Moss 5 parts Bark Fines (an extremely fine mulch) 4 parts Coffee Grounds (God bless Starbucks!) This will have worms in it (from hatched cocoons) by the end of the season. That is why I only use it for annuals. If you want to plant things that are to stay in their pots for awhile, see the postings on the "Soil & Compost" forum. Everything grows VERY well for me in this mix. At the end of the season, I add this back into the worm bin to complete the cycle. |
