Worm castings or UCG? How can I tell?

Hello all. I just started my first worm bin (bucket, really) about two months ago. Recently I've been seeing a lot of black stuff interspersed throughout my bin. Here's the question: How can I tell the difference between real worm poo and uneaten coffee grounds? Thanks!

Couldn't help myself, I have also started a new bin 2 weeks ago and hope someone has an answer.

I don't know how to tell the difference. I better shut up while I'm ahead!!

I have wondered about that too when I look in my bin. Would love to see the answer. :)

If you're using the compost in your own garden, I wouldn't worry too much. Mixed through Vermicompost, coffee grounds will go on decomposing in your soil and provide nutrients.
But if you really want to know the difference- the easiest way is to pick some up and squeeze or roll between your fingers. Coffee gounds will tend to feel granular, castings will be softer and spread more.

Vermicastings look like 1/4 inch lengths of cigarette tobacco. Also coffee grounds don't end up on the top and lid of the container. But vermicastings do.
