Adding food to bin

Simple question- not sure if there is a right or wrong. When adding food to a bin - (1) lay it on top or (2) mix it in?

Understand worms do not like to be disturbed. Humans either. but is there a benefit to (2) above?

I think most of us cover it to discourage attracting flies.
Personally, I don't worry about "disturbing" the worms.
They avoid light and disturbed habitat because they think
you are a robin. If I can disturb my dog, I can disturb my worms.

Your right Mike! It is a simple question with no right or wrong answer. It depends on your specific situation and goals.

I only top-feed. My worm beds are outside. Top-feeding keeps the herd near the top and leaves finished castings at the bottom. Harvesting is done by removing the top 8" or so of the bed where all the worm activity is. The black gold is then removed, and the herd is replaced. It works for me!

There are lots of variables. Do what works for you, as the worms don't really seem to care.
