Just leave it in the bucket, make sure it stays moist, sit back and enjoy. Check in a month to see if cocoons have hatched and you can remove more worms. You want to get them before they have a chance to lay their own cocoons.

A harvest of vermicastings, like a harvest of corn etc. should be celebrated with much dancing and feasting and great festivities! The castings should be air dried and cast into the air over the celebration to insure fertility and blessings for the next generation!

I am so happy!!

I usually throw my wet used tea bags in my bin. Once I checed them the next day. They were full of tiny baby worms. I am planing on adding my wet tea bags on top to catch any babies. Since I have about a month I have plenty of time.

I also added a small half of a frozen watermelon I have been saving in the freezer to my bin. Parts of the bin in the middle were very dry. I hope the large addition of food does not kill my bin. I put lots of shredded paper (mixed some finished vc in there too)

I had castings all along and never realized it since my bars were too close. Before if I checked down there baby worms were all over. Now none that I could see.

I did not see cocoons but I bet some were there. I will catch those babies. At least they can keep my VC going till I use it.

I just thought of something really important. Stir occasionally!! If you let the thing dry out completely and don't stir, you will end up with something about as hard as cement. I soaked my 'cement' for 6 months and still had trouble taking it apart. The circumstances are it was too wet to begin with and then forgotten and dried completely. Keep the VC lightly moist, but not wet.
