Aquarium Snails

We have an abundance of snails in our aquariums. We pull them out and throw them in the garbage. No chickens to eat them...what else can we do? Put them in the worm bin? Maybe? Thoughts? These aren't the kind of worm that eat live plants. Only decomposing leaves, algae and left over fish food. They leave the live plants in the tank alone.
I'm thinking it'll be alright. They will help decompose stuff. Worst/best outcome is that they won't breed, not moist enough, and will just live out their lives in the bin and die.
Maybe they will eat the Fungus Gnat larva. One can hope!
