keep fruit flies out

so, summer is coming and i was wondering if anyone has tried putting cups of vinegar around to lure fruit flies out of the bin?

last summer, i had a bunch of fruit flies and let them be. the bin stayed healthy and all flies died in the late fall. i still, however, think they're incredibly annoying with their little maggots and such.

Here are a few tips:
Freeze your scraps, it will kill the eggs.
Put a good two inches of paper shreds atop your bedding
Make a FF trap with 2 ounces of water, 2 tps cider vinegar and a couple drops of dishsoap.

Yes it does work! I also put in a few drops of liquid soap to lessen the surface tension of the vinegar. They land and sink.
