How to add new worms to existing bin

Hi all.

I'm about to receive 4000+ composting worms to add to my Reln worm factory (oblong, 4 trays, still working in first tray with original 1000 worms 4 months in..looking OK but slow)
My question is how to add them to my existing population.

I intend to remove any existing food from top layer, add new worms to top, light feed and cover with 1/2" moist shredded newspaper.

Can anyone see any probs with this, or have a better idea?

Thanks all

That sounds fine to me. You could just lay the contents of the shipment on top of the bed in a pile and just leave them alone for a few hours and they should go into the bed fine. I like to leave a light on over any new additions for a day or so just in case they get homesick and start looking for their old bed. The newspaper sounds fine on top but I don't think I would wet it as those plastic worm houses have problems with excessive moisture already so I would put it in dry and see if it is moist at all after 24 hours. If not you might mist it a little bit.

Thanks wfike, it's good for the old confidence when someone else thinks it's a fair thing.

I'll try some dry shredded paper as you suggest, as the last lot of feed was greens (silverbeet) and it is a touch damp. I do keep a sheet of corrigated cardboard on top of the bed, just to soak up any excess moisture that may build up.
