Pre-soaking bedding

I just started soaking my bedding before it goes in a new bin. I fill a 5 gallon bucket with leaves and water and let it sit for a few days. I then put the shredded paper in the bucket, squeeze it out and sprinkle it with sand/dirt/coffee grounds. Do you think this will help break the paper down?
