| Well today I made a smoothie for the worms. I had some veggies that were very old but still crunchy. so I threw those in the blender with a small amount of water. Made a nice frothy worm smoothie.
I gave the worms about 1/2 cup of it (my bin is about 3 weeks old). should I refrigerate the rest (about 2 cups) or should I store it outside? Maybe if it was warm & fermented the worms would like it even better? yep cooking for the worms, now I know I'm losing it!

totally unnecessary to blend veg waste, maybe even counter-productive [especially with water, veggies are 80% water already], chopping it up a bit exposes enough surface area for the microbes to get at it, and it's microbes the worms eat .... I'd pour it all on, but spread it around and mix it in, unless you have a very tiny bin or really huge blender cup Bill

Yeah, you're workin' too hard! Let the worms do the work! LOL!

Ya know, when I first got my bin, I did the same thing. I would blend all of my food scraps in my food processor and then feed. Anything left over, I would put in the fridge. Then, one day, I opened the bin. As I moved around the bedding, I accidentally raked through on of the smoothie piles. It was a big clump of mold on the inside. I carefully cleaned up the moldy parts and cleaned out the other piles. I have never given them smoothies again. I just chop the scraps and bury. They do just fine. If you do insist on adding smoothie, I suggest you add and mix in (just like squeeze already said). Just be sure there are no chunks. Make sure all the smoothie is well dispersed.

ok when I bought the worm bin at the environmental center the guy had suggested the smoothie idea. I have been putting scxraps in my bin but some get kind of large. I thought maybe the smoothie would be more effective. ok I'll dump the rest in there and just go back to my scraps again....

I suppose doing the smoothie thing and mixing around well a time or two with a really new bin might help promote more microbes quicker but it is definitely not needed.
