Spanish moss

I am new to vermicomposting. I have seen sphagnum moss, peat moss and coir (shredded coconut husks) as well as paper and cardboard suggested as bedding materials. Here in Florida we have an abundance of Spanish Moss hanging from our hardwood trees. Is this suitable as worm bedding?

How do I test the pH of my bin, or is this even necessary?

I think the best beddings are made out of something dry and primarily carbon. Paper and cardboard are well used because of that, and because it is free. I don't know much about spanish moss, but would assume it is still alive when you pull it off the tree, essentially becoming a food source as opposed to bedding.

I've never tested the ph of my bin, and I don't plan on doing it any time soon.

You can get PH test strips at a aquarium shop.
