Worms in houseplants

If some worms end up in my houseplants, will they hurt or eat the roots of my houseplants?

I've tried every possible method of removing worms from my harvested compost but I know there are still some worms and a few eggs in the compost.

The reason I'm asking is that a while back I put some comopost on a plant and several months later decided to repot it because it looked ill. I found a HUGE redworm in the soil and wonder: Could the worm have contributed to my plants ill health?
