Doubt it. For even more fun let them grab a three claw garden tool and scoop the worms into a new bin. I would not do it more than once a day or so. I've been know to do it weekly. I have done it monthly since starting a bin a couple of years ago. The only way to know what is going on is to tear the bin apart. It is educational. And more fun than a bin of monkeys.

I've seen posts that say by using a red light source, the worms don't recoil and go under the bedding. One person said using red celophane over a regular flashlight was the same. Your kids might try this in a dark room and red light to see if they can watch the worms at work. Might be fun. And educational, too.

I wouldn't want my kids hanging out in the 'red-light' district.

I poke around in mine once a day, or every other day, just to check the food sources. I actually just checked and the worms are fattening up!

Ok, I admit it. I like to check on them too, but usually only once a day. By the time all my kids are down there poking around, the bin gets opened alot! But we will try the red light idea...they will get a big kick out of working like scientists. All of them, that is, besides my 9 year old daughter who rolls her eyes at my worms!
