Cross breeding worms

Has anyone tried and had any luck cross breeding different species of worms? I know UNCO did it and have their own commercial brand. Don't get me started on the ethics of patenting a life form. I'm thinking about putting some larger worms in a separate bin with some red wigglers, giving em some wine and playing some Barry White and see what happens. It would be nice to have a slightly larger composting worm with larger cocoons for separating from castings.
I can't seem to find 1/8" hardware cloth anywhere.

Why would you want composting worms to be bigger?

The two closely related species Eisenia fetida and E. andrei will form a hybrid, but not to any great advantage. It might actually be a disadvantage having the two species together. Neither species is particularly good for fishing as they emit a nasty garlic like smell. Lumbricus rubelus is more commonly used as fish bait.

OK, lesson learned. Red wigglers don't get along with Canadian crawlers. A few days ago I put four in the bin from the bait shop (Yes Chuckie, I'm a fisherman)
Last night, a ton of reds were hanging out on the walls of the bin. just a couple were on the floor. I was able to find all the crawlers and pulled them out. Hopefully I didn't seriously screw up the ecosystem.
