Castings possibly harboring plant fungus

Hey, So I've been composting for a while. The first time... months and months ago I used some of the casting on some basil... the plant started getting brown spots and eventually died. I decided to scrap the castings (throw them in a community compost bin) and stat over... I finally used some of my castings again on some potted herbs that needed re-potting. I have a thyme plant that seems very happy, lots of new growth, but the sage has yellowing and blacking leaves, the cilantro is all over the map with wilting and some dieing leaves and the purslane has dieing leaves and a shriving stem. I'm worried that my castings might be carrying a fungus or something that is killing off my plants (at least those that are susceptible). Any ideas? Experience with these problems? Is it something else (poor plant care, bad potting soil two times in a row?)

How would someone get rid of a plant pathogen in their castings and keep their worms?
