Bin separation causing some re-thinking on my part

Last Monday, I began separating a small bins' contents of worms, cocoons, and black gold.

While separating, I found a de-segmented worm which caused me alarm and made my subsequent separation procedures much more detailed.

I found no other worms wi/the problem, but I did find something that caused me to question some things I've been doing with bin management.

Specifically, the ratios of "critters"..(mites, brights, creepy crawlers, bugs & stuff) was in direct proportion to the amount of excess shredded newspaper in the bin.

Consequently, during the next 5 days I separated 5 more bins being extra observant of those things. I found that those bins with more newspaper had more "critters"...every time.

I don't mind (and know those pests are gonna happen), but massive amounts of those things can be detrimental to the herd....to the point of EATING them.

Consequently, I've decided to use the once-glorified shredded newspaper a little more sparingly.

As always, MODERATION, diversity, and patience.
