Sorry, maybe they're grayish. I was kinda panicked when I saw all of them. Do I scoop them out, or let them grow to see what they are? Could they be nightcrawler babies? How many babies do they have per egg?

That sounds terrifying, but I'm still new at this. I just had my first mite bloom and thought my heart was going to stop when I took the lid off.

I don't have any advice or information to offer, but I was wondering if you had an update. Have you figured out what they are? Were they baby worms that hadn't turned red yet? Were they.... other?

Thanks for asking Martah. I scooped up a coffee can full with dirt and put a lid on it for about 10 days. When I opened it, it was full of nightcrawlers. I dumped them out in a different flower bed, and hope they will make it. Now before anyone makes fun of my ignorance, I would like to explain that I live in Las Vegas and worms are not very common here. I could turn my garden and say, "Oh, there's a worm!", and be excited. So now that I'm vermicomposting, I'm learning how to keep worms. This summer will be interesting because of our high temperatures. I've been putting iced water bottles in the outside bins, and today when I went to get the bottles there were worms right under the bottles. If anyone has any other ideas on how to keep them cool, please share.
