Eggs? Earwigs? Bad combo?

I never paid attention to eggs in my Rubbermade bin, wasn't even sure what they looked like. Then I saw all this "birdseed" in the bin (did I put in birdseed?), and it finally dawned on me that they must be the eggs! Take a look and tell me if these are eggs. Honestly I've neglected my box pretty seriously the last 6-8 months.

How long until the eggs "hatch," and what do the babies look like?

Also, I saw a number of earwigs (you can see a small one in the photo). Are they harmful to the worms?

I'd guess from the photo that it is some sort of fungus. Egg capsules are larger than bird seed.

That is really a great picture jasdip! Susan, the "eggs" as you call them are actually casings or capsules that contain the true eggs and sperm from the hermaphrodite mating of two worms - it's a really weird process. Several babies develope inside each casing. For a good explanation look up "cocoons" in the worm dictionary.
