Very nice castings in the bottom. Yes that is what it should look like.

Adding soft foods such as melon, squash, or pumpkin will help draw up the straglers. Always add more bedding as they release a LOT of liquid.

Unless you really need the castings now, I would wait another month for the cocoons to hatch out and the rest of the migration to happen.. There will always be some left behind. However, you could sort out the remaining worms and use the compost now.

I don't have your system, but I must say (and is it only me??) that those are beeeeauuutiful pictures! Healthy worms hanging out and chocolate-looking castings- ahhhh. I think those in the upper are itching for some watermelon.

I have three comments: 1) the bottom bin of castings look great, 2) the top bin looks like it should have more bedding. I keep my top bin (working tray) filled to the top with shredded paper/bedding, 3) when you are ready to harvest the bottom bin place it on top of the top bin (working tray) and keep fluffing it. Also leave this tray uncovered to let in light and air. The worms will quickly (within a day), move down to the next tray. The few worms that are left behind can easily be sorted out and placed in the working tray.
