Using an old freezer

I want to start a worm bin. I live on a ranch that has a bunch of old chest freezers just sitting around. If I drill some holes in the top, sides, and bottom could this be used as a worm bin, or is it bad idea?

This should be OK with only a shallow layer of bedding in the bottom of the freezer. You want surface area rather than depth. A few holes in the bottom for drainage should be all you need if you prop the lid open a bit for ventilation.

I think a freezer would be great. It would protect your worms from heat and cold!

Harvest may be quite the backache though. You got to dig it out somehow???

Good luck and let us know how it goes. I love reusing things:) Pete

Thanks for the advice. I'd much rather reuse/repurpose something then spend money for something new. Plus since they are already here I get to save money too!
