Your question is whether to " harvest " the live worms. One disadvantage of another major change is that I'm told worms prefer what they are used to. Food on the bottom is not what red wigglers are used to in nature. A good temperature for a worm bin is 70ú, so, yes, probably some cooked. In weather that hot, shade does not suffice. (IME) Wormers use a variety of strategies to protect their bins from overheating: ice ( or frozen food, such as pieces of melon) in a corner, creating a temperature range in the bin to -- an air conditioned garage. If the worms died from heat, the surviving life in the bin can manage the bodies. If there are other unfavorable-to-worm factors, another strategy may be necessary. I hope someone else on the forum can address the lime factor.

If you had a significant % of that 2 lbs of wormies fry, that bin will begin to emit an aroma that can only be described as eerie sooner than anyone would ever believe.

I know this because I once left a demonstration bin in the back of my van overnight...in the summer...in Texas ....South Texas. Temps about 90.

If that eerie bouquet meets your sense of smell, you'll know you fried em.

Babrararose21101, Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure if they could live in there with the dead worms so you answered my question... I harvested te live worms and put them in compost in a 5 gal bucket I didn't add food I want to bleach their bin to get dead worm smell out...(poor lil guys).
