What Not To Do.....

Scoop out bunches of castings and, unlike usual, don't worry that a few (maybe 100) worms didn't get (lovingly!) placed back into the bin, or that there are still some not fully composted avocado pits and maybe a few other things in the tub of castings. The castings were going to be plunked into the garden, so what's to worry about such things? Oh, then decide that you are too busy with real life (work and family- pesky details!) and leave the tub of castings in the garage for a week or so, then decide that it might be nice for it to dry out a bit, so leave it out in the sunshine before leaving for work. Leave it there for several days and find yourself quite astonished to find, one morning, that the local friendly raccoon family has gone through the bin, discarding the castings hither and thither while consuming all the worms. That's vermicomposting at its finest!
