Heads up, wormies....mass evacuation!

Last night I had a pretty severe evacuation from at least one bin, and maybe two, of a lot of worms.

No changes had been made to the bins in several days. No food added, or moisture, or bedding.

The only thing changed: I had put some sheets of cardboard underneath the bins the previous day just as a place to store them. When I discovered the worms all over the place today they were all on those cardboard sheets.

My guess: 500 worms still living and about 50 dried up dead. Did the worms leave the bins attracted to the cardboard?

All I can say is the bins weren't in any way evacuation-worthy. And, I've not had any evacuations in about 15 years or more.

Anyway, I removed the cardboard sheets, salvaged the escapees, and am watching what happens.

Maybe being on a less sturdy surface vibrations from the washing machine transferred towards them?

Earthquake? hmmm. We DO have a lot of effing fracking going on around here. I was riding my Harley yesterday and may have missed any tremors below 5.8 on the Richter Scale.

Fracking, by the way, causes your tap water to sometimes spontaneously break out into combustion (as in flames) which causes most of us locals to turn on the lights in the middle of the night when getting a sip of water.

Yep, firewater right from the tap.

cb2: where did you get the cardboard from? And what were they used for? Maybe they contain some vapour/aroma?

Yeah, my first reaction was to suspect something with the cardboard. It was a box that my brand new toilet came in. Anyway, I've removed it and will report back what happens next.
