BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) Trick-or-treaters may receive an unconventional treat Friday when they stop by Rainbeau Mars house. The Beverly Hills resident says she plans to pass out live worms for Halloween as opposed to candy in an effort to encourage composting and gardening. "I hope that we scare ourselves into waking up and taking care of the earth," Mars told KCAL9s Andrea Fujii. She purchased about 1,000 worms, along with soil, recycled pots and hundreds of vegetable seeds. Mars says kids will be able to pick out their own creepy crawler. "And put it in their box or their pot with their plant and hopefully they go home and plant it," she said. But kids Fujii spoke with werent thrilled with the idea. "Candy tastes good," an unidentified child said. "And thats disgusting." Knowing trick-or-treaters will get their fair share of candy, Mars says she hopes to spread her message instead. "Its really nice and refreshing to see kids as environmentalists. For them to be aware that putting worms in the ground help nourish the soil," Mars said.
