Worms go bye-bye?

Hi,

New here :)

I started a worm bin a month ago. I set down some soggy shredded newsprint in the bottom, fruit/veggie scraps, some coffee and tea grounds, some manure, soil soil.

Before purchasing a bag of red wigglers I dug through my flower beds and populated my bin with about 50 earthworms. Then I added some red wigglers. I burried them losely about 2 inches down.

My bin is a Rubbermade blue bin with some air holes(top edges below lip for lid) and drainage holes(side and bottom).

I have been turning it once a week to aerate it. Adding new food. However... It seems that nearly all my worms are gone. I was only able to find about 5 red wigglers and 1-2 earthworms.

I didn't see any dead worm bodies. The bin smells earthy and doesn't seem to be sour.

Before I get more worms..Any idea of what the problem is? Could they have been leaving my bin through the bottom drain holes or just died off?

Thanks!
