Just starting

Hi - First post on Garden Web, first Forum, first month having a Worm Farm.
It looks like they are getting fat - and all seems fine, but I'm not sure if the bin is wet enough. There are small areas that look dry - and have not gotten any "drainage" from it. I THINK I'm supposed to get a few drops at least per week.?
Any thoughts on vermicomposting would be appreciated!
Also, it's in m basement and want to make sure it's warm enough.

"Any thoughts on vermicomposting would be appreciated! "

We got a bin load. Every topic under the sun (other than ones chuckiebtoo has not thought of yet, such as why Day Light Savings Time was invented for vermicomposters and how vermicomposting can improve your golf) are in the archives. Just keep reading... and reading. The archives are also the only way to get answers to questions you did not even know you should ask.

There are some who argue that a properly maintained bin will not have any drainage at all. I always found that hard to achieve. Keep a spray bottle on hand and spray the dry areas. You should be fine.

As for the temperature of your basement, if you are comfortable there, the worms will be too.

If your worms are getting fat, you're doing it right. You want your bin bedding "damp, but not soggy". That means that little or no water is dripping out. It's not that "there's supposed to be a few drops every week", as much as "there shouldn't be more than a few drops every week".
