Giving Up the Experiment!

I put a 21.5 oz. "compostable" bag of Sun Chips into the bin last June, thinking that I would check to see if any breakdown was occurring in six months. I know these are supposed to decompose in traditional piles/bins where heat may be the thing that gets it all going, but I tucked food into the bag, put it in the bin and have been placing food on/around it whenever that corner of the bin is "next" in line for food. Well, with the plethera of food scraps lately, my bin seems to be full, full, full, so I decided to check that bag a bit early, as it is taking up valuable real estate. The result? Lots of casting in and around the bag but not a hint of cellulose breakdown in the bag itself. It is now out in the conventional compost pile.... getting snowed on!
