Worm Identification

I was working on my fish pond today to get it ready for winter. I was removing the plants from the waterfall and found this worm in the mesh batting type stuff. This mesh was in the waterfall box with elephant ears growing in it. When I pulled it out, I found two LARGE worms actually living in there. This mesh is general covered by flowing water, and the water is about 55 degrees. I was shocked at how healthy and thriving they were. Can anyone identify this worm? They were both about 4-5 inches long. I didn't know a worm could live submerged in cold water.

Below is a picture of the piece of mud caked mesh material, and a picture of the pond to show how the waterfall was set up. The mesh was in the waterfall box at the top. The pictures are too good, but it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Lastly, a picture of my indoor worm bin with some pumpkin pieces.
