Worm Rescues

Yes, I'm still around and still reading even though I haven't had much time to get involved in discussions.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else is as crazy as I am.

So, I'm starting to walk across the parking lot at my work this morning before the ridiculous while it was still around 50 degrees (the ridiculous, insane blizzard we are having now was no where nearby). And I noticed a poor lost worm squirming around on the asphalt. So, I rescued him, put him in the grass where he belonged. Then I walk across the parking lot and spot another one. What was I to do? I rescued him too.

Fortunately, no one at work noticed so I didn't have to explain myself. But I did want to tell the story to people who might actually understand.

So, I'm wondering. How many of you have engaged in random and spontaneous worm rescues?

Hi Heather;

To answer your question, every time it rains. I have my worm bin outside on my patio and every time it rains, some worms get out. So there I am all dressed up in my rain gear with two plastic teaspoons and a plastic cup, scooping them up and putting them back. I probably look like a crazy person to any passerby but it pains me to see the worms just washed away.

Maybe those who pass by think you are eating them! Funny stuff

Worms go crazy when it rains, and it rains often here. We had a 6" drenching last week, with booming thunderstorms last night. This morning I found a worm in the bottom of my dogs water bucket..... which is located 5' above the ground on a wood porch and 50' from my nearest wormbed. I have noticed this before. Why?? I am guessing it is instinctive to climb when barometric pressure drops, but why go swimming at the end of your journey? I do not know and my worms are not talking!

Hey Mendopete; Your not listening! That worm was telling you it needed to catch its breath. Well aireated water is just what the worm ordered after a 50 foot dash with climbing involved.
