Want to grow cukes, squash and cantaloupe up.. can I?

Hello,

I have some cantaloupe seeds started. I'm planning on growing some acorn squash, zucchini, cucumbers and butternut squash as well. I'd like to grow these vertically.

How does that work?

The directions on the seed packets say to grow them on little hills. Do I need to do this with vertical gardening as well?

Can I just stick the seedlings/seeds into the ground (my garden is not a raised bed)... then when the plants start to grow tie them onto a nearby trellis? Then I need to put the growing fruit into a knee-high nylon and tie it to the trellis, right? Is that it?

Should my trellis be perpendicular to the earth or parallel? Does anyone have an pictures so I can see what I'm supposed to do?
