I grow rampicante on a VERY strong trellis. It is a huge plant and you may have to weave it into the trellis a little as it grows, but it will hold it's fruit without help. The first year I grew it was in a huge container on a five foot tomato cage. It went to the top of the cage, came back down to the ground, then ran 15-20 feet onto the ground, so be prepared for a big plant.

I have never grown these plants, but in New York City, a roof top gardener used pantyhose mesh nylon to hold up all this large fruit to save space. Melons, squash, gourds, his honey dew melon where the biggest I have ever seen.
