Well, I have seen a wonderful one made from metal poles, but I cannot seem to locate it. I sure wish I'd saved that picture because it was so awesome. There were tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, and more, all growing down through the top of the overhead trellis. This sure made them easy to pick, and they stayed clean.

This is a great idea, Bill, and I'd love to see the structure you're describing, Angela. My husband is planning to build a home and land is very expensive here. He's talking about possibly a rooftop garden, which is another way to go. But for where we're living now, something like you're describing would be great, because we'd still have the usable space UNDER the garden. We'd like a much larger garden that we have space for! As an aside, I was talking to a senior gardener who has built his garden up so that no bending is required (waist high) and he gardens in about an 8" depth.
