Rosa Montana

My parents grew Rosa Montana in the 1940's and 1950's. This past spring I found a plant of Rosa Montana and placed it in a large pot, where it has done well. I live in Southern Mississippi, zone 8a, and I'd like to know if it will live through the winter in my garage, which has no doors.

Also, how do you train a non-attaching vine on a wooden fence with no attaching places?

If mine freezes, it comes back from the roots. It climbs by tendrils, so you will have to provide a trellis or wire mesh for it to grow on.

Here is a link that might be useful: Coral vine

RE: Rosa Montana

Would the coral vine be a good candidate to grow up and into a very large tree or could it be harmful to the tree? It appears to be a dainty vine and the tree I'm thinking about is very old and very huge, but unfortunately very unattractive, so I know it could handle any weight the vine has. Thanks
