help with golden pathos

Everything I read says golden pathos are easy to propagate. I must be doing something wrong. I tried rooting clippings directly in soil - they either withered and died or rotted. I even tried leaving them attached to the mother plant and fastening them into the soil - after WEEKS, there was no sign of rooting. In water, the cuttings have taken nearly 2 months to show any roots. It also tends to get very leggy - I prune, but the new growth only comes from the end of the vine I pruned, so it just doesn't bush out. I need some help. any suggestions?

RE: help with golden pathos

I cut mine with one node (more cuttings to try with). Plant the stem horizontally in soil about 1/2 - 1 inch down in the soil (faster draining soil). Don't keep the soil wet. You may have better luck sticking it back into the same pot as the parent plant. I do the same type of cuttings for philodendron and wandering jew.
this cutting took about a month to get to this point.
here are some pics that may help
