Planting a trellis: morning glories and moonflowers

I plan on hanging a 5' wide 15' tall trellis in southern exposure and would like to fill it with morning glories and moon flowers. The planting bed is approx. 7' x 1.25'. I've never grown anything in this soil, but plan on amending with compost. How many morning glories and moon flowers would you plant to fill this trellis? I live in North Carolina and expect them to grow quickly as this seems to be land of the vines. I'd like to account for losses to pests, mistakes, etc.

Also, when should I plant and should I start seeds indoors or in-situ outdoors? Do you think either vine will reach the top of the trellis by season's end?

Thanks for the advice!
