If the honeysuckle was well established the puppy pruning will do no harm. Not sure which Lonicera you have since there are many 'well behaved' kinds, but all benefit from hard pruning anyway, otherwise you end up with a tangle of stems flowering only at the top.

Here's the good result: for each stem your puppy 'pruned' you will get two new branches! Just imagine how full your vine will be when it flowers! You might want to put a chicken wire cage around it until puppy gets past this stage, because lots of plants are toxic to children and pets.
