Controllable vine wanted

Hello,

I am looking for a flowering vine to grow up a trellis that won't take over the world. I would like to attract hummingbirds and other birds. I have been fighting euonymous and honeysuckle that were choking trees, shrubs and grass, from a previous home owner, and finally having those under control don't want to re-create the problem; but would like to create some vertical interest. The topic on Trumpet vine was very informative; and I will be avoiding that plant, also.

Probably to your dismay, I'm going to suggest honeysuckle BUT not the apparently invasive Japanese variety the previous homeowner planted.

Grow either coral honeysuckle (lonicera sempervirens) or lonicera x heckrottii "Gold Flame". The coral honeysuckle bloom is orangey/red and the Gold Flame is pink and yellow. I had both of these in my Ohio garden (zone 6) for many years and had absolutely no problem with them spreading. The hummers loved both.

Both were hardy in Ohio.

When I moved to Florida, coral honeysuckle was one of the first plants I added to the garden:
