Can i grow honeysuckle in my tree?

I have a sassafras tree in the back yard, and i was thinking of planting a fragrant honeysuckle to grow up and through it. The tree is perfectly healthy, so i was wondering if this is a bad idea or good idea? Hope this isnt a stupid question! Heres a pic of the tree, if it helps.

It's a beautiful native tree. why not plant vines on your fence? I would not use the invasive Japanese honeysuckle under any circumstances.

Perhaps Lonicera heckrotii 'Goldflame' which is fragrant.

A very long flowering, but non-fragrant honeysuckle is our native L. sempervirens which attracts hummingbirds all growing season.

Hi carol23,

Does 'Goldflame' have a thick foliage that will give me shade in the summer? I see that it dies back during a hard freeze, which is exactly what I'm looking for as I want sun in the winter on my patio. Do you think it might re-grow about 6 ft high by June/July in z8b? Thanks!
