This vine grows wild all over NW Florida - right now, there are mountains of yellow everywhere - stunning!

The ones in Florida are Carolina jessamines (gelsemium sempervirens).

Winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) is not really a vine. It is typically considered a scandant shrub with a lax, arching habit. It has none of the equipment to be self-supporting - no vining stems or tendrils, holdfasts, aerial rootlets or even thorns. It must be tied to any supporting structure and unless tied in a bunch, even if grown as a free-standing shrub, it will collapse under its own weight and form more of a groundcover. Even in full growth in midseason, the foliage is tiny. Typically, it is recommended to cut the plant back hard each season after flowering to keep the specimen looking tidy. It's strongest feature is its late winter flowering -- it's a bit of a mess otherwise.

It is the ivy that is holding this up....no ivy, you'd have a sprawling pile :-)
